CANON EOS 7D vs. NIKON D300s
obviously, those of you that know me will know i am slightly biased, but trust me its i will give credit where credit is due:
in maybe less than a month or so, i will have the opportunity to upgrade my current 40D to another model...im choosing between a 5D mark II or a 7D (both canon).
heres the two competitors going against each other and the specs i like and dont like about both:

IMAGE QUALITY: canon wins here. although MPs arent everything, 18 vs. 12 is a pretty big leap on the scale if you're considering getting any closer to full frame.
AUTOFOCUS: i havent personally tried the d300s myself, and i dont really care to, but from what i know, the 7Ds system is unlike anything canon has released before. although the nikon has 51 autofocus points, the system canon has integrated is 19 CROSSTYPE sensors. which are each individually capable and can be isolated from each other sensor point. nikon is known for having a baller autofocus system, which i do agree they have a better one, but as far as canon goes, this system blows anything out of the water. the 7D that is.
ISO: reading numerous blogs and reviews, it seems both products fair well and are pretty similar anything 1600 and below which is what normal photographers shoot with anyway. however, the 7D has the capability to expand to an iso higher than that of the d300s.
BODY: both bodies are built pretty hefter considering they are only mid-range SLRs. for the 7D however, alot of reviews and photographers have been comparing the weather sealing to be better than that of the 5D mark II and also comparable to the famed canon eos 1-n series, (i think) which are some of the most weather resistant bodies canon has ever made.
FPS: both are pretty comparable to each other. the d300s does 7 fps, and the 7D does 8 fps. not much to say and i shouldnt, but the canon is faster
SCREEN: both screens are about the same. canon might have an advantage because of certain adherent layers, but nikons have the optional screen protector case overlay. both are 920k screens, which for canon has been standard since the induction of the 50D. both have the same viewing angle which is 170 degrees
SHUTTER DURABILITY: both are same. 150,000 cycles
VIEWFINDER: once again, the same. 100% true. although the magnification for the nikon is .94, whereas the canon is 1.0 making it better.
HD VIDEO: canon wins in every level here. canon has alot more options for you to be able to control the video, whereas the nikon only has one. 24 fps at 720p. even the t2i and the t1i takes the cake here where HD is TRUE HD shooting at 30 fps at 1080p. the nikon advantage is prob. that you can fit more video onto a memory slot, but the canon still has the option to do the same as the nikon as well.
FEATURES: here is where, i might be slightly if not blatantly biased. ill admit, i only know a few of the d300s features, mostly the main ones advertised. but here is where ill tout the canon.
like i mentioned above, the 7D has canon's most sophisticated autofocus system to date, or at least in the same range. also its more of the newer cameras in canon's lineup to include the wireless flash system. before you had to buy a $300+ wireless flash transmitter to control multiple flashes, but now you can control it straight from the body, no other parts necessary. also, i believe you can have an additional +-2 stops of exposure control, totaling to +-5 instead of the usual -+3. , a leveling function, and the new wireless accessory that allows you to control up to 10 cameras simultaneously via a computer across the room, or across the country as canon states it.
i do however wish that canon switched to the dual mem slots in this one. something i am deeply jealous about in the nikon d300s. DEEPLY.
other than that, the canon blows everything else out of the water...including the nikon d300s. =D
